After a morning where rain threatened to halt proceedings, Cam ladies took to the field at Everlands in bright sunshine to take on Stroud Ladies in the Gloucestershire T20 league.
Stroud won the toss, inserting Cam before starting their bowling attack strongly, with Jordan Yiollaris and Poppy Culver dismissing openers Rosie Dimery and Liv Hughes within the first two overs. Just as Vicky Morgan and Jackie Kaiser began to steady the Cam ship, Kaiser was bowled by Culver. Morgan was then joined at the crease by Ali Dixon, and the pair worked well to see off the opening bowlers, settling into a solid partnership to bring up 60 before drinks. Stroud’s bowlers refreshed, Yiollaris trapped Morgan lbw (28), and Dixon (33) fell to Culver shortly after. Amelie Bouvier and Jan Street then took up the mantle with some confident stroke-making to finish the innings with 12 and 18 respectively. Cam completed their 20 overs with a respectable 135 runs.
Cam embarked on their defence with tidy, accurate bowling from Dimery, before captain Diane Duxbury took the first Stroud wicket in the second over. Duxbury then took a further wicket later in the game with the batter spiralling the ball high into the air before it nestled into the safe hands of Hughes.
Player of the match Rosie Young made her debut bowling spell in Ladies cricket, producing some very good deliveries. Amelie Bouvier joined the attack, working hard to keep Stroud’s scoring rate down. Kaiser bowled a miserly three overs for ten runs, taking 2 crucial wickets including the well-set opener Yiollaris (35).
Cam’s bowling was supported by great fielding from Sarah Bouvier, intercepting several shots otherwise destined for the boundary, and making a great attempt to catch a ball hit right at her at speed. Fielding close, Lydia Gruber showed great reactions, thwarting many quick singles. Substitute fielder Martha Gruber made some crucial stops, replacing wicket keeper Street on the field, with Morgan showing her versatility by taking over the gloves.
Stroud’s final score after the 20 overs was 102, falling short of Cam’s total by 33 runs.
