The 2nd XI arrived at The Manor Ground, Lechlade buoyed by their opening day victory against Haresfield Gladiators CC. Skipper Adam Holloway made 3 enforced changes with Ben Holloway, Martin Booth and Nathan Allen replacing Mike Deane, Dane Hall and Martin Livall.
With the threat of rain later in the afternoon, Holloway won the toss and proceeded to put Lechlade CC into bat. Riswan Hassan, the left-handed opening bat was soon back in the hutch when he snicked an away swinging ball from Lewis Baker (8-2-27-2) with Ben Lane taking a sharp chance, diving low to his left to take the catch from the very first ball of the innings. Baker’s first ball of his second over was a beauty, bowling Macleod for a duck. Lechlade were soon 3 down when Merrett was caught by Lane off the bowling of the ever-smiling Steve Rice who finished with figures of 7.2-1-17-3.
Lechlade recovered when Asad Zaman joined skipper Dan Sampson. The pair made 37 before Zaman (24) skied one up for Martin Booth to gleefully catch from the bowling of Charlie Viney (8-1-25-1).
After a spirited 34, Sampson was next to follow when he was caught smartly by Chris Wilcox off the bowling of Adam Holloway. Wickets began to fall rapidly with only Faterpenkar (14) showing any real resistance before he was snared by Ben Holloway who capped a fine bowling display with a wicket (8-0-17-1). Specialist boundary rider Martin Booth showed his fielding prowess with two more fine catches, whilst mini fingered George ‘Growler’ Parrott was not to be out done in the fielding department with a smart catch in the deep. Adam Holloway (3-9) cleared the Lechlade tail by drawing Kaimili forward out of his crease to give Lane an easy stumping.
Lechlade finished at tea on 104 all out
The 2s opening pair of Parrott and Lane strode out to the middle eventually after a lovely tea and set about business in chasing down the target. In reality there was little drama with Parrott making light work of the response as he bludgeoned his way to 76* whilst Lane 24* batted methodically by rotating the strike. The target was reached within 17 overs and completed a 10-wicket win. All in all, a satisfactory afternoon for Adam Holloway’s men.
