The 2nd XI hosted Painswick CC 2nd XI on Saturday fresh from a comprehensive 10 wicket victory at Lechlade CC. Skipper Adam Holloway made just one change, Mike Deane returning for the shy and retiring Ben Holloway. Cam won the toss and put Painswick into bat.
Painswick skipper Curtis and R. Austen started brightly. However, Lewis Baker was soon homing in his radar after a wayward start and bowled Curtis for 7. Austen (6) followed next, giving an easy catch to Holloway off the bowling of Chris Wilcox. Painswick were soon 36-3 when Baker (7-1-28-3) cashed in again, bowling Barnard for 9.
Painswick were staring down the barrel. However, Higgins and Hall set about building a partnership before Hall who was probably guilty of playing one big shot too many, departing for 18 leaving Painswick 70-4.
The visitors continued to steadily build after drinks with Higgins and Wilson at the crease until Higgins departed, caught by Mike Deane off the bowling of Charlie Viney (8-1-28-2). Wickets continued to fall but not before fireworks from Wager who took on the Cam bowling attack with a quickfire 47 before being bowled by Wilcox (8-0-38-2).
Wilson was then joined by Galvin who managed to continue to take the fight to Cam by quickly scoring but it was Holloway again taking both wickets. First clean bowling Wilson and then snaring Galvin (20) into a pull to deep square where Lewis Baker was waiting. Mike Deane then took a stunning full length catch to remove E. Austen before Holloway (6.1-0-36-3) removed Moore lbw for 8 to end the Painswick innings on 184 all out.

The opening pairing of George Parrott and Ben Lane has been a feature from Cam’s early season, so confidence was high. Both Parrott and Lane were soon off the mark and again Parrott was the aggressor of the two whilst Lane was fluent with his shot making. After a partnership of 84, George Parrott (42) was the first wicket to fall when he left a straight one from all-rounder F. Hall. At drinks Cam were 96-1.
With not a lot of time at the crease Denis Booth (5) was just finding his feet when he was bowled by the impressive E. Austen. Austen was again in the action with the runout of skipper Holloway (7) leaving Cam 130-3 from 30 overs. Lane was soon on his way to his first half century of the season before being unfortunately run out by Hall. Hall bowling to new batsman Wilcox should have taken Wilcox c&b but instead finger tipped the ball onto the stumps to run out the non-striker Lane (61).
Martin Booth (14 not out) joined Wilcox (34 not out) out in the middle and the pairing were soon into their stride, playing some lovely shots and running quickly between the wickets. Cam reached the target with 2.5 overs to spare to continue the winning run to the season.
