Ladies blitz Golden Hill

35 Over League 19/05/2024

Cam Ladies v Golden Hill

Cam hosted Golden Hill at Cam for their second T35 league fixture of the season. What was to unfold over the next few hours was beyond everyone’s expectations!

After losing the toss, Cam were put into bat and GH started off well with the ball, taking Liv Hughes’ wicket with a smart caught and bowled by N Vijay at the start of the second over. However, it didn’t take long before Marlene Brown and new batter and Captain, Kiara Ford settled into their batting. The runs soon started to flow; in the 11th over Marlene Brown reached her 50 and in the 20th her 100! In the next 10 overs, the batting continued to be ruthless, Kiara moved on to her maiden 50 and Marlene 150! The wonderful batting display continued until a record partnership of 275 for Cam Ladies ended with just 3 overs left to go. Kiara was caught and bowled by E Ewens after a brilliant 71 (7 fours), her highest score so far in her career.

Marlene wasn’t quite finished yet though, supported in the last few overs by Diane Duxbury (3) and Vicky Morgan (1*), she moved on to an amazing score of 171*. The final score of 301 for 3 was record breaking for the Ladies section. Marlene’s score of 171* (33 fours) with a strike rate of 161, is unprecedented for the ladies and possibly all sections of Cam Cricket Club!

Even with all sorts of records tumbling in the batting, there was still work to do as Cam took to the field. The opening batters started confidently reaching 46 before losing their first wicket to Kiara Ford in the 11th over. Runs were hard to come by for Golden Hill due to some tight fielding by Cam, and they lost a further 2 wickets to some great off spin bowling from Vicky Mansell. In the 18th over, when Cam supporters were thinking that the day just couldn’t get any better, Vicky Mansell started her 5th over. Two dot balls to start with, her the third ball took the bails off, her fourth ball took the bails off and everyone held their breath as she ran up to bowl for her hat-trick! The bails went again! It didn’t take long before everyone was on their feet and her teammates were running towards her as they celebrated and congratulated her both on her first ever hat-trick and her fifth wicket. Wickets continued to fall with Vicky taking another one in her final over, Amelie Bouvier taking 2 and Jackie Kaiser taking the last wicket with Golden Hill finishing on 62 all out in 24 overs.

Vicky’s outstanding figures of 7 overs, 5 maidens, 3 runs and 6 wickets, including a hat-trick was another record-breaking achievement and one that will not be forgotten for some time! What a match!

Congratulations to everyone for a brilliant team effort and to our fantastic record-breaking players and team.
