Cam 2s back on track

After a narrow defeat to Hatherley and Reddings CC 3rd XI, Cam CC 2nd XI travelled to Oakridge CC, where the sun shone and the weather was warm. Adam Holloway won the toss and elected to field. Lewis Baker (5-0-8-0) and Charlie Viney (8-4-12-1) opened the bowling on a tricky pitch that played low throughout. Both started excellently, keeping things tight with Oakridge rarely scoring. Viney, who has only gone for 29 in his last 24 overs this season, picked up Cam’s first wicket of the opposition skipper, clean bowled for 11. Chris Browning (8-1-31-0) and veteran Steve Rice (8-3-13-5) continued the good work by Baker and Viney with wickets falling to Rice. Cam were tidy in the field with catches from Baker, captain Holloway and two for Craig Mills on his return to one of his previous club’s. Between Browning, Rice, Holloway and Chris Wilcox, we continued to frustrate our opposition with little runs coming for Oakridge and wickets continuing to fall. Holloway (5-0-13-2) and Wilcox (1.1-0-3-2) finished the innings off, picking up two wickets each. Oakridge were bowled out for 89 with Rice being the pick of the bowlers picking his first 5 wicket haul of the season.

After the interval, Cam looked to start positively in the chase with Ben Lane and Craig Mills facing the new ball. However, Mills (4) soon fell off the bowling of Heath. Denis Booth joined Lane at the crease and the two quickly got to work and pushed the ball around nicely on a still difficult pitch to bat on. Both picking up boundaries to inch closer to the required target. Lane (34*) and Booth (32*) saw the game home after Oakridge finished the game off with five wides to sum up the home side’s day. Cam travelled home with a 9 wicket win to stay top of the table for another week after a good performance to move on from last week’s defeat. The 2nd XI return to The Shed next Saturday with Oaksey CC visiting.
