Match Report: Cam Ladies vs Cheltenham – 35 Over League – 23 June 2024
On what looked like an overcast day, the Cam ladies took on Cheltenham away in the Gloucestershire T35 league. Cam won the toss and elected to field first, despite being a player short, which posed a challenge in positioning fielders effectively. They decided to forego the fine leg position, relying on keeper Vicky Morgan to be a strong asset behind the stumps.
The first wicket fell in the second over with an outstanding catch from newcomer Stephanie Hill at mid-on off Diane Duxbury’s bowling. The next wicket was claimed by Kiara Ford in the seventh over. The bowling remained tight, and even with one less fielder, Cheltenham’s runs were slow. When the first change in bowling occurred, Dimery took a wicket in her first over, supported well by Bouvier from the other end. Dimery went on to take another four wickets in her 7-over spell. Bouvier, Young, and Brown also took a wicket each, resulting in all the bowlers sharing the wickets. Brown took the final wicket, getting Cheltenham all out for 100. This was an outstanding achievement, considering Cam was a player short.
After enjoying some lovely teas provided by Cheltenham, Cam embarked on their batting innings. Marlene Brown and Kiara Ford opened, getting off to a great start and surpassing the required run rate, which was 2.86, by scoring 23 runs off the first 3 overs, lowering the required rate to 2.41. However, the 4th over saw the wickets of Kiara Ford, who fell to an amazing low catch by bowler Sophie Chattell, and Rosie Dimery, bowled on the next ball. Liv Hughes then came in and steadied the innings alongside Brown until Brown was caught out in the deep.
Vicky Morgan was bowled in the 10th over, Hughes in the 11th, Bouvier was run out in the 12th, Duxbury hit her stumps in the 17th, and Hill was run out after tripping over her pads mid-wicket. Swan joined her daughter Rosie in the middle before Swan was bowled in the 22nd over. Cam was all out for 67 off 22 overs.
Player of the match went to Rosie Dimery for her outstanding bowling display, achieving her first 5fer with figures of 7-0-19-5.
